I was an MP in the U.S. Army, and later a law enforcement officer for both the city of Santa Rosa, California, and the county of Sonoma, California. I retired from public service after over 30 years in the business. Turned out that I still needed to work, so I'm a security officer in private industry. I have a private investigator's license and have done some of that work, but I discovered, much to my dismay, that while I am really quite competent at the work, I'm a crappy businessman. I told you that so I could tell you this: Working in private security is either pretty nice or truly awful, depending almost entirely on whether the outfit you work for is headed up by a former law enforcement officer……….or not. I now work as a security officer for two really good private companies and a really nice community college. It wasn't always that way. I worked, ever so briefly, for two really miserable companies. One of them had rank amateurs as dispatcher...
Television notes from the land of perpetual rainfall—Castle Rock, Washington The way things are going in this country, I'm pretty happy that I gave up on cable TV when I did. Not that I don't watch stuff on TV, I just don't see much of what passes for video entertainment on any of the major networks. I watch stuff that comes into my living room via my television set, but…….I bet you get my meaning. Here's what made me think of all this: ABC is releasing a new series entitled “Uncle Buck”. You remember Uncle Buck, right? John Candy…..Mccaulay Culkin. Lotsa laughs and a real humorous movie. Never could be a series no matter what. But that's not quite enough, you see. It's an ALL BLACK Uncle Buck. Gonna be just as popular as the all black Honeymooners, I betcha. Maybe as good as the All Girl Ghost Busters. No question about it though, the networks need to take some more stuff and Turn It On It's Head!!!!! The Half-Nelsons. ...
One of the many things that addle me is this: Why do so many really wealthy people—like actors, and athletes, and politicians, and dot-com millionaires, and TV pundits/talking heads…...etc—Who didn’t really work very hard for their wealth, and have the capitalist system to thank for their, well, unearned wealth….. Well, why do they all seem to become socialists? How come is that?? Except for the ones who have become commies, of course….. Ya’ know, I used to capitalize words like communist and socialist and such, but quit doing that when the lefties began the practice of capitalizing every ethnicity other than white, which is habitually written in lower case. On a related note, why is it do you s’pose that coastal big cities have overwhelming crime and bums on the street? Not that I have any answers—I just have questions.
